Green Spaces

Nice has a surprisingly large amount of public open space in the centre, particularly since the new Park was opened in 2013, running from the seafront at Jardin Albert, back through Place Massena  for more than a kilometre,  with seating, hundreds of fountains,  and open spaces for concerts and playgrounds, A great place for a leisurely stroll.

Together with the wide expanse of public beaches, there are some 15 private beaches along the majestic palm-fringed Promenade des Anglais, each providing sunbathing loungers, parasols, showers, bars and restaurants.

There's a small, more secluded beach on the west side of Le Château, below the sea wall of the port. A little further on are a string of coves beyond the port that start with the plage de la Reserve opposite parc Vigier. From the water you can look up at the nineteenth-century fantasy palaces built onto the steep slopes of the Cap du Nice.
